Acer Aspire E15 (E5-576G-5762), An Affordable And Complete Notebook
The most good mix of recent components, simple design and practical features that have virtually disappeared from other laptops. Autonomy and excellent performance for its category.
If you regret the time of easily replaceable DVD recorders, HDMI outputs, Ethernet ports, RAM and hard disk, the Acer Aspire E15 will make you happy. And to complete this flattering picture, performance and autonomy are excellent for its category.
The Acer Aspire 15, and more particularly the model E5-576G-5762. It offers a configuration largely able to cope with basic tasks such as email, video streaming or music, web applications, not all at the same time, however. And if you opt for the version tested here, you will leave with an 8th generation Core i5 and a Nvidia GeForce MX150 graphics card, which is a rarity on machines of this price.
Apart from these components, you get the same options on all models in this range: a good full HD screen, generous connectivity and even a DVD burner for those who need to perform physical backups. In addition, you can easily open the chassis to add memory or change the hard drive. Difficult to say how long this machine will last over time but it seems in any case quite appropriate for light office or students who can accept its size and weight.
Compromises Not Prohibitive
This Aspire E15 is the archetype of the bargain. Obviously, Acer had to make some compromises, but none is crippling. It all depends on your needs. For example, it’s not an ultraportable thin and light. It is plastic and not metal, weighs 2.4 kg and is 3 cm thick. It is not an anvil to carry even if you do not wander all day with it. The plastic finish does not inspire the same ruggedness as an aluminum frame, but it does not matter if you leave it at home.
The 15.6-inch full HD screen is quite ok overall. Its colors are pleasant and the angles of visibility much better than those usually found on this kind of machine. However, it is dark and despite its matte finish that reduces glare. Let’s add that the screen borders are very thick in view of the current standards.
However, the keyboard and the touchpad are much better than what you would expect for this price. As a bonus, Acer managed to hold a keypad. This is nice although we personally preferred a keyboard centered with slightly larger keys. But it is quite pleasant to use and the keys are backlit. The touch pad is responsive and soft. We just had to correct the setting so that it does not interpret the two-finger scroll as a right click.
A Very Complete Connectivity
Rich connectivity has several endangered ports in addition to a USB-C 3.1 port:
- HDMI and VGA outputs;
- 2 USB 2.0 and 3.0 ports;
- Gigabit Ethernet port;
- Microphone headphone jack;
- SD memory card reader.
And for fans of physical media, an 8x rewritable dual-layer DVD burner compatible with M-Disc DVDs.
With its quad-core 8th generation Core i5 processor, 8GB Ram, 256GB SSD and a GeForce MX 150 graphics card (2GB of dedicated memory), the E15 is perfectly at ease with standard office and home office applications. school work. And you can boost the RAM up to 32 GB by removing only three small screws.
The machine fully supports video or music streaming while browsing a dozen open tabs in Chrome. But this is not a pc cut for video games. The GeForce MX150 is not a lightning war and do not expect to play the latest titles with the maximum settings. But it’s still much better than an Intel UHD Graphic 620 integrated graphics chip.
We were able to play Bioshock Infinite in 1.920×1.080 pixels with high detail as well as Overwatch or Fortnite in medium level details. You will hear the cooling fans clearly while playing or for any other intensive task, but the noise is bearable.
One of the few things you can not find on this Aspire 15 is a removable battery, an option that has almost disappeared from mainstream laptops. Fortunately, the autonomy does not disappoint with 11h 58mn to our endurance test, which earned this machine to be in our top 25 notebook and hybrid most enduring.
As long as we do not need an ultraportable, the Aspire E15 has everything to please, especially for those looking for a scalable machine, rich connectivity with a premium DVD burner. A machine that is recommended all the more easily as its performance for everyday use and its autonomy are excellent
